Access keys
This is a planned improvement to the site as soon as the programming for the feature is completed.
Standards Compliance
- Pages conform to the W3 Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, both priorities One and Two where possible on the site.
- Where possible all pages validate as XHTML
- All pages use structured semantic markup.
Navigation aids
- At the top of the page (beneath the banner) is a breadcrumb trail showing you exactly where in the hierarchy of the site
- At the very top of the page is a link to a sitemap, showing the Sections and categories of the site.
- A text-resize button has been provided on the right-hand side which allows users to bump up the text size across the site if they need to (and remember that choice - requires JavaScript on)
Links
- Many links have title attributes which describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target (such as the headline of an article).
- Whenever possible, links are written to make sense out of context. Many browsers (such as JAWS, Home Page Reader, Lynx, and Opera) can extract the list of links on a page and allow the user to browse the list, separately from the page.
- Link text is never duplicated; two links with the same link text always point to the same address.
- There are no "JavaScript:" pseudo-links. All links can be followed in any browser, even if scripting is turned off.
- There are no links that open new windows without warning.
Images
- All content images used in the home page and all archives include descriptive ALT attributes.
Visual design
- This site and all its archives use cascading style sheets for visual layout.
- All decorative design images are served via CSS, and the entire layout scales with font resizing. It is also a liquid layout, allowing the width to expand and contract to fit the browser window.
- If your browser or browsing device does not support style sheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.
